Shaler Township, PA History and Location
Shaler Township is located in Allegheny County, north of Pittsburgh, and as of a 2000 census, the population was 29,757. The Township, originally formed in 1847, was named after Charles Shaler, a well known mid-19th century judge from the Pittsburgh area. Settlement of Shaler Township was sporadic until the creation of the Glenshaw Glass plant which drew workers to settle in the area. Shaler became an affluent suburb after World War II and is now a defining part of the North Hills region of Allegheny County. Today it is a bedroom community for Pittsburgh commuters.
