Oakmont, PA Location and History

Oakmont Pa lies approximately 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.  In 1816, a farmer named Michael Bright bought a large tract of land.  The deed stated that the property began at “the black oak on the Allegheny River, hence the name Oakmont. Incorporation was in 1889. Oakmont shares the rich history of the area, beginning with the Native Americans who resided there before colonial times, and including the dramatic scenes of the French and Indian War.

First and foremost place of interest is the famous Oakmont Country Club, frequent home to the US Open. There is also the Oakmont East Golf Course and the Dark Hollow Woods Park. Oakmont has picturesque campgrounds, and is noted for hunting, fishing and boating. The country atmosphere is great for growing up in Oakmont.
