Natrona Heights, PA

Natrona Heights is in Harrison Township on the Allegheny River 23 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. . The name Allegheny, loosely translated, means ‘fine river’ and is Native American, and of Lenape origin. During the colonial era, native groups, including the Iroquois, Lenape, Shawnee, and Mingo settled in the area. In 1748 this part of the river was crowded with more than one thousand canoes carrying a French army of 3000.  The Seven Years War was waged for control of the Allegheny and Ohio River valleys. This was the war where a young British lieutenant, George Washington, first fired on the French. The area is rich in early American History.

Natrona Heights has two fine parks in the vicinity: Harrison Hills Park and Deer Lake Park. There is also the River Forest Country Club and the Breckenridge Heights Country Club.  Proximity to Pittsburgh makes access to museums and universities convenient.
